GOT PHILMONT?? Pine Tree Council will be sending two crews (24 participants) to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in late June of 2015. This opportunity is for both Boy Scouts and Venture Scouts. In order to be eligible for this expedition, youth must be 14 years old on or before June 28, 2015. Many of those that have been on a trek at Philmont will tell you that it is the absolute highlight of their scouting career! If you are interested in learning more about this exciting adventure, please contact Rick Raynes at rick.raynes@yahoo.com. • Philmont is the world’s largest youth camp, consisting of 137,493 acres, or about 214 square miles. There are 315 miles of trails, 34 staffed backcountry camps and 770 campsites. • Over 22,000 Scouts and Leaders are expected to go on 12-day treks this summer. • EVERY DAY, 350 leave Base Camp starting their trek, 350 return to Base Camp completing their trek and 3,500 are hiking in the backcountry. • Philmont’s elevation ranges from 6500 (Base Camp) to 12,441 feet (Mt. Baldy). • Philmont puts up 850 wall tents each summer and has 2,500 backpacking tents. Over 200,000 dining hall meals and 465,000 trail meals are consumed each summer. • Philmont is a working cattle ranch with 250 horses, 85 burros, 320 cattle, 140 buffalo, and 7 ponies. 300 tons of hay is produced each year. • Philmont has over 1,500 deer, 300 elk, 40-60 antelope, and 100-150 black bears. • Summer participants mail approximately 81,000 post cards and buy 14,000 t-shirts.

York District 2014 Spring Camporee

Thanks to all who participated and supported the York District 2014 Spring Camporee. The EAA Young Eagle coordinator has provided this impressive recap of the flight activities.

Here is some info on the events at the Camporee.

Egg Drop - Can be done by Patrol or by Unit.

Paper Airplanes - Bring a custom paper airplane for “Best of Show” competition.  You will make paper airplanes (materials provided) for three other competitions.

Webelos Poster - Can be done by individual or by Den.

Orienteering - Pretty simple… bring a compass!

PBY Pull - Junior and Senior teams will be formed and compete against the clock to pull a 20,000 PBY Catalina airplane down the runway.

Helicopter Rides - Scouts MUST bring a signed BSA Activity Consent Form (attached) and $25 cash.  Weather permitting, rides will take place around 10:00 a.m.

Camp Nutter Nebula

June 27 -29, 2014: Camp Nutter Nebula – This is a Webelos Camporee being held at Camp Nutter.  Cost is $10 per Webelos Scout which includes one adult.

Pre-registration is mandatory and the deadline is June 13, 2014.
