York District Spring 2018 Merit Badge College

Register now for the Spring 2018 Merit Badge College. 

Hosted by the York District Advancement Committee at Sanford High School (Sanford, ME) on the following Thursday evenings:

  • April 12, April 26, May 10 and May 24.
    • Session 1 runs from 6:00pm to 7:15pm
    • Session 2 runs from 7:15pm to 8:30pm.

Offerings include: Communication, Environmental Science, Emergency Preparedness, Citizenship in the Community, First Aid, Home Repairs, Orienteering, Public Health, Game Design, Moviemaking, Photography, and Public Speaking.  Reading and Scholarship Merit Badges will also be offered by appointment.

Pre-registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and is required in advance using the online form below.  Moviemaking Merit Badge requires a Scout to be at least 14 years old at the start of the College.  Some Merit Badge sessions are subject to cancellation at any time.  There is no cost to attend this Merit Badge College.  Questions may be sent to mbc2018@yorkdistrict.org.

Scouts should attend all sessions in complete BSA Scout Field Uniform and Be Prepared with a notebook, pen/pencil and any Merit Badge books necessary for requirement fulfillment.  Scouts also need to bring a Scoutmaster-signed and properly-completed Merit Badge Application Form (Blue Card) with them to the first session.  Scouts are expected to attend every session of the college

Notes to Parents and Scout Leaders:  There has been some misunderstanding on the role of the ”Merit Badge College.”  These sessions are intended to be educational for the Scouts that have registered and attended, as the word College implies.  This event is not intended to be a Merit Badge sign-off conference.  We encourage Scouts to contact approved Counselors for sign-offs for requirements and work completed outside the College event, as the College format is not intended for that purpose.

Thank you for your commitment to serve as a leader in the Scouting program & thank you for being willing to get the training to be able to offer our youth the best program possible! Get the list of training dates HERE.

Training is a function of both the Council Training Committee and the District Training Committees. For more information about the trainings listed please contact the District Executive for the district listed. You are invited and encouraged to attend any District’s training that fits your need. Please check the Council and District Calendars periodically for updates.

York District 2017 Pinewood Derby Postponed, now May 6th

I’m sorry to report this weekend the weather looks like it is not going to cooperate. Depending which forecast you get your information from, York County is expected to see anywhere from 5-16 inches of snow.

We have decided to postpone the District Pinewood Derby to May 6th at the Bonny Eagle Middle School.

Setup will be Friday May 5th from 5-8. Saturday May 6th we will have morning prep from 7-8. Registration will be from 8-8:45 with racing to begin at 9AM. Following the District race will be awards and the community race.

Thank you to all those who have put effort into and planned for this weekend. I’m Looking forward to a great race day May 6th.
